Asakusa

Asakusa used to be the leading entertainment district in Tokyo. In the Edo Period, kabuki theaters and the nearby Yoshiwara red light district flourished in Asakusa. In the Meiji and Taisho Period, modern types of entertainment facilities such as movie theater were established at the district.

A certain atmosphere of the old Tokyo is preserved in Asakusa. Its most popular tourist destination is the Sensoji, a buddhist temple which was built in the 7th century. Tourists can easily explore and enjoy the district on foot, or you can try a guided tour on a ricksha (a small two-wheeled cart).
