Ise Shima

The Shima Peninsula in southern Mie prefecture is home to Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrines, the Ise Jingu, and is a popular leisure resort area for people from big cities such as Nagoya and Osaka. The peninsula is designated as a national park for its natural and cultural heritage. The Ise Jingu consists of 125 shrines including Geku (Toyouke Daijingu), Niku (Kotai Jingu) and Betsugu. It has been worshiped by people around Japan for hundreds of years. Other tourists attractions include the Toba Aquarium and pearl cultivation along the coast.
