Gujo Hachiman

Gujo Hachiman is a small town in central Gifu prefecture, where the upper stream of the Nagara-gawa River meet its branch, the Yoshida-gawa River. The town is known for its castle, originally built during the 16th century and reconstructed in 1933, and for its Gujo Odori Folk Dances, which goes on for 32 nights in summer with ten different styles of dance. Another popular attraction in the town is the pristine waterway, which is used in the residents’ daily life in much the same way as they’ve done since the Edo Period.
