Sendai and Matsushima
|
Sendai was first developed as a castle town under the rule of 17th century feudal warlord, Date Masamune. The Sendai City today is the largest city in the Tohoku (northeastern) region. A number of historical and cultural sites coexist harmoniously with nature in this “City of Trees.” General Date Masamune is still loved and respected by local people. Not far from Sendai is Matsushima Bay, which consists of around 260 islands. The natural beauty in Matsushima Bay has attracted people and tourists since the Heian Period (784-1185).
