Apart from Naha, there are much more interesting and alluring sites in Okinawa. So if you have time, traveling to its remote islands is strongly recommended. Miyako-jima Islands is situated about 300 kilometers to the southwest of Okinawa Island, and famous for its white sandy beaches and wonderful nature. It has an unique culture influenced by Asia Pacific islands, including the neighboring Taiwan. Thus the local festivals and rituals are quite distinct from the main island of Japan. Another attraction is Yaeyama Islands, which contain Hateruma-jima Island, Japan’s southernmost point. Other islands are the beautiful Ishigaki-jima and Iriomote-jima, also worth a visit.
