As part of the Towada-Hachimantai National Park, Lake Towada and Oirase Stream area is situated on the border between Akita and Aomori prefecture. This area is famous for its autumn leaves, especially around the Oirase Stream. Lake Towada is a large dual crater lake surrounded by primeval forest. The circumference of the lake is 46km and the depth is 327m. The water is so clear that visitors can see through the water as deep as 10m. The Oirase Stream is the only stream that has Lake Towada as its source and is popular for its magnificent landscape.
