Hirosaki is a not-to-miss destination if you travel to Aomori. It was founded in the early 17th century as a castle town, and the old district retains all its charm. One of its popular attractions is Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) at the Hirosaki Castle in spring, where some 5,000 cherry trees decorate the park. The city also draw tourists during the Neputa Matsuri (festival), known for its extravagant and colorful illuminated floats and accompanying dancers.
