East Hokkaido

East Hokkaido (Douto) is a broad area that includes the towns of Abashiri, Kushiro and Nemuro, as well as Cape Erimo, the end of Hidaka Mountain Range. Picturesque nature beauties are well preserved in this area. Shiretoko Peninsula is a UNESCO heritage site. Kushiro Wetlands is the largest marshes in Japan. Caldera lakes around Akan National Park is also impressive. Facing the Sea of Okhotsk, Abashiri is the place to see the wonderful world of drift ice by riding on an ice breaker plowing through the ice.
