Chugoku

The Chugoku region occupies the entire western part of Honshu, and consists of five prefectures: Tottori, Shimane, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Yamaguchi. It is connected by bridges with both Shikoku Island to the south and Kyushu Island to the west. In terms of sightseeing, Chugoku is an attractive region with lots of  popular historic sites, beautiful nature, and old towns. Above all else, the Itsukushima-jinja Shrine in Miyajima Island, which is known worldwide for its “floating torii gate,” is a must-see in the region.
