It is difficult to imagine that such an intoxicatingly beautiful garden exists right in the middle of Cosmopolitan Tokyo. The history of Chinzanso dates back 130 years ago, when Aritomo Yamagata, an elderly statesman in the Meiji period, built a garden that has since evolved to become today’s Chinzanso. This year, a new chapter has started as Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo was reborn in January 2013.

From cherry blossoms in spring, to fireflies winking their lights against the backdrop of summer greenery, and then followed by autumn foliage and winter camellias, seasonal delights are always ready to impress guests in Chinzanso. As well, the hotel caters to all of your needs. From your room, you may admire the three-storied pagoda and a view of Mt. Fuji and Tokyo skyline. Looking for exquisite cuisines, 12 dining facilities are at your service. As if all these exclusivities are not amazing enough, our unique hot spring bath with water brought from Ito offers you the ultimate in relaxation and delight.

A special spring event “Sakura Buffet” will be held from Mar 1st to Apr 7th. Enjoy spring cuisine and scenery at the same time! There is also a garden tour reserved only for hotel guests.

And in summer, locally bred fireflies take turns to enliven the atmosphere. As you walk in the garden, you will see adorable statues of the Seven Deities of Good Fortune made according to the sketches of a famous painter of the Edo period. Situated in one corner of the garden is the newly opened Serenity Garden, which is a sky garden covering a space of 1,500 square meters. Enjoy the charms of our nature.

Around 80% of them are small & medium enterprises that have fewer than 10 employees. However, being small doesn’t mean these factories are lightweights in the supply chain. The high density of factories makes it possible for each small factory to focus on its specialty and continuously improve the production process. As a testament to its quality, some machinery parts of Hayabusa spacecraft and Shinkansen (bullet trains) are produced here. Look around you in Tokyo and it is likely that you will find something made from parts manufactured in Ota!

If you want to know more about nori, we recommend you visit the Omori Nori Museum (http://norinoyakata.web.fc2.com/) for a deeper understanding.
Established in 1988, Kudan Institute of Japanese Language & Culture is a Japanese language school with history and credence. Its most prominent characteristic is in the variety of its students, who come from all around the world. In the past 3 years, students from 74 countries have studied here, amounting to 1,000 students from 45 countries throughout the year. While learning the Japanese language and culture, students can also widen their views of the world as they learn about cultures from around the world from their international classmates.

Their broad variety of courses include “Intensive Courses” for students who wish to study at Japanese universities or colleges, as well as conversational courses and private lessons. The classes within the course are divided according to the student’s ability, allowing them to learn comfortably at their own pace. The flexibility of the school allows students to start a course on a weekly basis, accepting new students every week and for as short as 2 weeks. The short-term “holiday” course is among the most popular classes available every summer in which students can experience the culture through extracurricular activities and short trips.

Kudan Institute of Japanese Language & Culture is also known for its rich cultural programs. Within the school building is an authentic Japanese room where students can experience a traditional tea ceremony as well as calligraphy and flower arrangement, providing them an experiential platform to learn about classical Japanese culture as well as the language. For those who wish to practice practical Japanese, they recommend short- to long-term home stays with one of the 350 families registered with the school. Not only does staying with a family give you a memorable experience of an authentic Japanese way of life, it also acts as a second family, giving you an added support system outside the school.

The campus is centrally located, with easy access to Tokyo’s popular neighborhoods like Shibuya, Shinjuku, Akihabara and Ikebukuro. Over 10 universities that are located in the neighborhood further make it a great place to learn. Experienced instructors as well as administrative staff who are fluent in various languages are ready to make your stay rewarding and unforgettable. Learn the Japanese language and its distinctive culture here at Kudan Institute of Japanese Language & Culture.

The Japanese language school at the globally-renowned YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) is famous for its thorough and comprehensive teaching in small groups. Being an international youth organization, it provides helpful volunteer tutoring sessions as well as chances to interact with Japanese conversational volunteers after class.

Courses run 4 times a year starting in April, July, October and January, and students can enroll for a period of 2 weeks up to 2 years depending on their needs. During summer and winter vacations, 2- to 3-week intensive classes are available for those who need to improve their skills. Another course to note is the 3-week short-term intensive course especially tailored for those on a Working Holiday Visa to help them learn practical language skills that they can immediately use at work.

The school is centrally located in Suidobashi in Chiyoda-ku, 5 minutes from Tokyo Dome City on foot and neighborhoods like Ginza, Ueno, Shinjuku and Shibuya are all within a 20-minute train ride. The school provides lodging at the YMCA Hotel located on site, and can also help you find one elsewhere.

Conveni (コンビニ) is the Japanese shorthand for convenience Store. When you feel like having a canned coffee and walk into one of them, you might be amazed by the various selection available on the racks, not knowing which one to buy.

At this moment of hesitation, a small marketing gimmick may make a big difference. On the rack, usually you can find a few beverages bundled with a small toy or souvenir.

These toys are meant to attract consumers’ attention and to stand out from the competitors. Moreover, they are usually priced no higher than the ones without souvenir, so you may consider it as a bargain.

Well, I admit I was attracted by this extra something even when I don’t really wanna buy a canned coffee or even when the toy itself is not so attractive. And this is how I succumbed to the temptation, alas.
