Shiga
|
Shiga is an inland prefecture known as the ‘Lake Country’ because Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, covers about one-sixth of the prefecture’s total area. Despite its inland position and sparse population, Shiga has been an important place throughout Japan’s history. The region’s nature, historical attractions and culture draw many visitors, while the pace remains laid back. Besides Lake Biwa, the prefecture has a number of temples, castles and festivals.
