Oita is highly popular as a hot spring resort, thanks to the many hot spring inns in Beppu and Yufuin.

Jutting out into Suo-nada Sea, Kunisaki is the place where Buddhism culture flourished in the Heian Period. There are many time-honored temples and Stone Buddhas in this area. Especially, there is a collection of stone sculptures of Buddha in Usuki, which are the first Stone Buddhas that were designated as national treasures.

The prefecture is also known for scenic spots to admire autumn leaves. Yabakei is the best place.
