Kochi

Kochi is best known as the birthplace of Sakamoto Ryoma, one of the key figures at the end of Edo Period. A big bronze statue of Ryoma stands on Katsurahama Beach right in front of the Pacific Ocean. In August, Kochi is in a party mood because of Yosakoi Festival, which attracts many tourists as well as locals dancing with clappers. The Shimanto River, said to be the last limpid stream in Japan, is famous for its beauty and is also a good place for fishing.
