Kagoshima
|
Situated right in front of the grand Sakurajima, Kagoshima is a castle town where numerous heroes of the Meiji Restoration were born. One of them is Saigo Takamori, who was one of the most influential samurai in Japanese history. Geographically, Kirishima Mountain Range stretches in the north, while Mt. Kaimondake stands out in the south. The former is known as the land of Japanese ancient myths, and the latter is referred to as Satsuma Fuji. Down south is Sata Cape locating at the southern end of the Osumi Peninsula. Further down south are semitropical islands such as Tanegashima, where firearms first arrived in Japan; and Yakushima, a World Natural Heritage site.
