Hakodate

Located at the island’s southern tip, Hakodate is the third largest city in Hokkaido. It is one of the first Japanese harbors to be opened to international trade since the era of isolation ended. Hence, there are remains of foreign influence in the city. For example, consulate general offices, foreign trader’s residences and christian churches are all western style architectures. The city is also known for fresh seafood and the spectacular night views on top of Mount Hakodate.
