Fukuoka is the economic and cultural center in Kyushu, geographically closer to Busan and Seoul than to Tokyo. It has been the gateway to Asia. There is a variety of old and new attractions starting from traditional food stalls to modern shopping mall. The port of Moji still retains some remnants of the good old Meiji and Taisho Periods. Dazaifu is known for Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, which is dedicated to Sugawara-no Michizane, an excellent poet. Finally, Fukuoka is a city you could not afford to miss.
