Fukui

Fukui, formerly known as Echizen, is located in central Japan along the Japan Sea coast facing Wakasa bay. Fukui has a beautiful coastline. Tourists can observe rock columns formed by sea erosion at the famous Tojinbo cliffs. Thrived as a political center since ancient times, Fukui is rich in historic heritage, among which is the magnificent Eihei-ji Temple founded in 1244. It is also home to Echizen-brand products such as crabs, soba noodles and many traditional handcrafts.
