Tradition and Trend in Japan

Christmas in Japan

31 Dec 2011

Christmas season is coming!! Many places start Christmas decoration and to fascinate with people. Omotesando Hills, high-class shopping center at Omotesando in Tokyo, is one of the famous Chirtmas illumination spot in Tokyo. You might feel yourself as Cinderella when walking down such a beautiful stairs! Not only inside, outside street is also illuminated at night and make a romantic atomosphere.

Don’t you think Buddhism country like Japan and Christmas are a bit strange combination?  As you know, most Japanese are not Christian, but we really like to celebrate Christmas as one of the big year events.  Nobody goes to church on Christmas, but many couples go out for christmas special dinner or event.  On December-24, christmas eve,  chicken and christmas cake will be served as special christmas dinner at home and children expect Santa Clause to leave present at the bedside during sleeping (but only who behave well this year can get!), which is the typical Japanese Christmas celebration.

But why do Japanese eat Chicken? Because turkey is not sold in Japan and…. I heard  KFC promoted as Christmas standard! But no matter what reasons are, the idea of sharing happy time together with  people around the world is fantastic. isn’t it?

Happy Christmas from Japan ;-)
