Aomori Nebuta Matsuri Festival

Aomori Nebuta Matsuri Festival is one of the three biggest festivals in Tohoku District, and is designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Assets. Nebuta, a huge papier-mache with effigies of men, animals or birds, lighted from inside, is placed on each carriage. About 20 carriages are pulled by people called Haneko in colorful costume on the main streets of the city from 7:10 pm to 9 pm on the 2nd through the 6th. On the 7th, the parade is held from 1 pm to 3 pm, and five most-highly-evaluated Nebuta are set on the boats and afloat on the sea, while a fireworks display (8,000 fireworks) is held over Aomori Bay from 7:15 pm to 9 pm. http://www.nebuta.or.jp/
